A very young cricketer, and bids fair to i'oo<S all-round ; slow in the field. A vory , H. K, A fast run getter, and a fine field. L in d sa y , W\ (Winchcslci). A good hat, with a very pretty cut ; was very useful, and scored well ; a safe field, and a sure catch. S traciian , G. (Cheltenham). One of, if not the most brilliant anaU :r fieldsmen of the day; bowls slow round with a high delivery and was vciy effective on several occasions; contributed very materially to the successes of the county by his good management, and to him Surrey ought to be greatly indebted. T ili . ard , C. (Repton and Cambridge). A useful man, being a straight fast bowler, and free hitter. Did not play for his County in 1877. R ead . W. Wk Proved a great acquisition to the County; a young and very promising player, a patient bat, with hit when wanted, and a safe field; one of the best amateur cricketers of the day; played a fine innings against Yorkshire at the Oval, scoring 206 with Jupp for the fir: ‘ wicket. M oney , Rev. W. B. (Harrow and Cambridge). Still keeps up his cricket, and is useful in every department of the game. G ame , W. H. (Sherborne and Oxford). Was of great service to the Coun ty, and scored largely, especially at the Oval against Gloucestershire and against Sussex at Brighton ; a fine long field. S huter , L. A. Was very effective with the bat, playing good cricket; throughout a very useful man, being also a fine field. S huter , J. (Winchester). A pretty bat, playing hard on the off-side; will be a useful man for the County, when he gets a little more used to the company. W yatt , G. N. (Cheltenham). Played good cricket early in the season, batting freely, and fielding very well. A11 accident prevented hirn playing in the later matches. A bbott , W. (Winchester). A good wicket-keeper, standing well up to fast bowling, and taking on either side ; a moderate bat. C larke , C. C- A splendid field; at times successful as a slow round-arm bowler, and plays in good form. L ucas , A. P. (Cambridge). Plays for Surrey. SUSSEX. B rown , C. A. A useful fast round-arm bowler, and can get runs when wanted. C otterill , J. M. (Brighton). Plays splendid cricket, has the very best defence, and can severely punish the loose balls ; a good field. W as only able to play in two matches. . . K ennedy , C. M. (Cambridge University). Takes wickets fairly, but is in too great a hurry to get runs, and very apt to get 1-b-w; a \ c r y good field, but not always a sure catch. S mith , A. (Brighton College). A left-handed round-arm bowler, with con siderable break, bowls with judgment ; a right-handed batsman. Owing to anaccident was unable to play in 1877* ail(^was f»rca^y missed by the Eleven.
