A very fast run getter and powerful hitter, his driving bein - very tine : good held at point. Did not play for his County much last season. Rather nervous on hrst going in. M akixsox , J . Still maintains his reputation as being one o f the best cricketers in the North o f England. Seldom plays for his County, but generally to be found playing for the Broughton Club, o f which he is an old and useful member. Played one o f his old innings o f 104 against United South last season. P arr . H . B. (Cheltenham). A very good steady bat and field. Did not play much last season. . r R owley , E. B. One of the best batsmen in the North, drives well, and severely punishes slow bowling; good long-stop and held. Generally captains the eleven when playing. P orter , E. H. A good and safe bat, with capital defence; a fair change bowler; also good held at cover-point. C hadwick , E. L. (Castleton Club). A very good bat indeed, cuts very neatly, good leg hitter; also good held. A useful addition to his County. L each , J., R ., and"W. ^Castleton Club). A trio good enough for almost any eleven; all thoroughly" good batsmen, and good fields; but un fortunately do not play’ much for their County’ . W right , Rev. F. W . iRossall and Oxford). Was one of the best bats in the County, also splendid held at point. Has we believe almost retired from the cricket held. M ills , W . G. (Manchester and Longsiglit Clubs). A good all-round player, can bowl (fast), bat, and held well. - jH W alsh , G. (Rugby). A very neat and steady b a t ; good held and long- stop. Sometimes plays for his County’. W adsworth , E. (Rusholme and Manchester). Sometimes plays for his County, but does not come up to expectations. Is nevertheless a good bat and capital held. R oyle , A'. A much improved bat, having greatly assisted the County in the batting<iepartment during the past season. A splendid held, especially at cover-point. K ershaw , J. E. A new addition to the County. A good bat and held ; has scored largely’ in minor matches. H ultox , C. G. A dangerous batsman, and very hne held, and sure catch. F . M elhuish . A neat player, but wants a little more conhdence whenhrst going in. A good held at point. jfl W a l l , H. A good wicket-keeper, and fair bat . S t e e l , A . G. A young player of great promise. Bats in capital style, and can hit’well. His only appearance for his County was against Sussex, when he played a masterly innings of 87, a hne performance for so young a player. P a t t e r s o n , W . S . , S t e e l , D. Q . (Cambridge), play for Lancashire. LEICESTERSHIRE. H A Y , W . H . A good steady bat and excellent long-stop. M arriott , C. (Winchester and Oxford.) A very hne all-round cricketer, being good at every point; bats in neat style and is an excellent field. M arriott , G. S. A fast round-arm bowler, and fair bat. M i t c h e l l , R . A . H . (Eton and Oxford.) ' St i l l ranks as one o f the best batsmen of the day; is now a Master at Eton College. #
