Evans (captain), much steadier than last year in batting ; has a fine free style, and always likely to get runs though his defence still wants strengthening ; the bowler of the eleven, fast, with a great break ; good field, but should spare the wicket-keeper’s hands more. The eleven have had a very successful season under his captaincy. S.Saxton, has improved wonderfully, and is now a very safe bat with a fine off drive; he has won the average bat ; kept wicket for the eleven with some success. *C. Haynes, a lively bat with nice style, who hits hard and sc quickly; bowls fast right, and is difficult on his day, but hardly straight enough. * R . L . Knight, has hardly improved as much as expected in ba hits well, but wants defence : bowls left-handed medium, and keeps steadily on the wicket, is more lively in the field than he was. Pears, much im proved as a bat, very steady with good defence ; bowls occasionally ; won the prize for the best field in the school. *C . J . Younghusband, unlucky with the bat except on one or two occasions; an excellent long stop. *//. Fox, is a steady bat with nice style, ought to become very good ; a change bowler and fair field. R . Cribble, greatly improved in batting ; if he will c of one or two faults, he should be a good bat next yea r ; a good field, but wants quickness in return. *C. Barnard, a steady bat, wit out well against good bowling, not preposessing in style; somewhat slow in the field, but very safe. S. H. Evershed, a hard hitting bat, but weak in defence; fast change bowler, and very good field. A . j . Lindner, a very fair change bowler, but wanting in determination and perseverance; a moderate bat and field. ETON COLLEGE. Captain, If. E . Whitfeld. Results of Matches.
