Orde (Eton), the wicket keeper of the eleven, and a good one; does not show to advantage on a slow ground, but bats in nice and effective style to fast bowling on a fast ground. M . J . Dauglish (Harrow), has got over his partiality for rule xxiv, and played some very useful and praiseworthy innings; greatly improved in the field. M. A . Kinloch (Eton), has been prevented by the schools from showing us how far he has kept up his old form. A . Haskett-Smith (Eton), a very dangerous batsman in college matches, combining good defence with hard all-round hit ting ; seldom failed to head the score ; energetic and good field. C. Mackenzie (Repton), has hardly kept up his school reputation as a b a t ; on his day plays well, but not to be relied on ; has proved an effective bowler on slow grounds. J . T. Twist (Shrewsbury), rather too fond of a slog and a short run, but has pulled more than one match out of the fire by resolute hit ting at a pinch ; energetic and first-rate field and catch. G. C. Robertson, a good all-round man, has been consistently useful throughout the term. H. If. Longman (Harrow), has a free and plucky style of batting, with a pretty stroke to the o f f ; uncertain field. C. A . Key (Rugby), [very fast bowler, straight, but rather short pitched ; batted well the few times he played. F. S. Baines (Winchester), a painstaking bat, with patient defence ; hardly makes enough o f a loose b a ll; excellent long-stop. For F . M .
