Webbe (Trinity) possessed of unwearied patience, combined with severe punishing powers, his hitting to square leg being very clean; a good field anywhere, and a sure catch ; played for Gentlemen v . Players. F . M . B u c k l a n d , (University), proved himself invaluable to the eleven in London both with his batting and bowling ; played two innings of over a hundred, and his 117, not out, against Cambridge was a brilliant display, especially of driving ; a steady medium-paced bowler, and, on a wet wicket, very puzzling ; played for Gentlemen v . Players, at Prince’s. A . H . H e a t h (Brasenose), a pretty bat, and plays in very neat style, but failed to come off for the University, especially against Cambridge; a fast bowler of erratic order; fair field. T y l e c o t e (New), a very success­ ful medium-paced bowler, with a good spin, and plenty of head work, bowled very well throughout, but was especially useful against Cambridge ; a fine field at point ; played for Gentleman v . Players at Prince’s. A . W . P e a r s o n (Christ Church), with more confidence would be a good b a t ; useful change bowler ; slow in the field. E . W . W a l l i n g t o n (Oriel), a steady bat, not often dismissed without a respectable score ; a good field. H . R , W e b b e (New1*, a dangerous bat, hitting very clean, and plays very good cricket; not very sure in the field. J . H . S a v o r y (Trinity), a free-hitting bat; throughout the season; a brilliant field, especially at cover-point. A . D . G r e e n e (Exeter), played a good innings of 93, not out, against M.C.C. at Lord’s, but otherwise was unsuccessful as a b a t ; a splendid field, and made
