James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1878
92 M INOR COUNTIES . SUFFOLK. President, Marquis of Bristol. Hon. Sec., Rev. E. E. Ward, Haughley Vicarage, Stowmarket. - * *» e b ■ This county club was revived in 1876, principally by the wish of Lord Henniker (president for that year) and the exertions of the Hon. Sec. Rev. E. E Ward, and the promise of good cricket shown by the “ new ” team must give pleasure to all residents who take any interest in county cricket. That much of its success was due to a few players will be seen by the analysis of the bowling and averages of batting below. In batting there are undoubted signs of great talent in some of the young players, and, in bowling, it is said few counties possess better amateurs, but what is really wanted, is the help of two or three GOOD professionals (which the county does not at present con tain), as amateurs are not at all times to be relied upon, especially in matches played far away from home. ............
