Twelve matches, with only two victories, represent a poor show for such an eleven as that of Yorkshire. Andrew Greenwood, and Clayton, were unwisely removed from the eleven early in the year, but throughout the old dash of the Yorkshire team was conspicuous by its absence. Hill’s bowling was altogether harmless, and this depreciated considerably the attacking powers of the team, while the fielding generally was not up to the mark. Armitage finding his lobs altogether a failure, took to slow round later in the season, and was singularly successful, andwithUlyett, Lockwood, Armitage, East- wood, Myers, Greenwood, Clayton, Pinder, Hill, Bates, and Emmett, York shire has an eleven much above the form shown during the last season. It seemed to the casual observer that they did not work so well together as might have been the case, and there was certainly a lack of energy in the field that showed want of management somewhere.
