78 i-corded as one of tlio best exploits of the season. Armitage secured with Li^ lobs nine wickets for Yorkshire, aud Mr. Henderson the sumo number f »r Middlesex, but in each caso the average exceeded 10 runs. Middlesex, 1 2 and *234 (six wickets); total, 366. Yorkshire, 208 and 202; total, 170. (3) Middlesex Notts. Nottingham, August 17* 18, and 10. This was a successful finish to the Middlesex season, although the match lid not produce an absolute victory. Haft was unlucky enough to be caught ■ the wicket when he was just one run short of three figures, and his in nings of 00 was one of the very best of his many good scores in 1876. Mr. A. J. Webbe went in first, and saw all the Middlesex batsmen out after a -toady innings of 44 not-out; tbo ouly other notable figure being the 33 ol Hurghes. In the follow-on Messrs. A. J. Webbe and I. D. Walker made a fine show, and the first wicket fell for 98 runs, a feat against the bowling of A. Shaw, Morley, and Tve. Mr. H. It. Webbe, too, played a good innings of 48, and Flanagan even just managed to reach double figures. It would have been deemed an easy task for Notts to obtain 132 runs against the bowling of Middlesex, but it was only the very steady batting of Barnes, who was not-out 19, that saved the Northerners from a certain defeat. At lea^t Barnes, Sherwin, and Morley were the batsmen left to make 42 runs and the two last-named are not dangerous with the bat Middlesex can certainly lay claim to have had the best of the finish. To turn what seemed a pro bable reverse, after following on with a dead weight of 83 runs into an almost certain triumph was an accomplishment that well deserves congratu lation.
