O fficers for 1870. — President, Sir Charles Oakcley, Bart. Committee, Hon. F. Amherst, H. A. Brassev, M.P., H. Brenchley, Lord Clifton, Lieut.- Col. Dcune, Col. F>eedes,C. S. Hardy, P. Hilton, H. Treasurer, E. G. Hartnell. Hon. Sec., Lord Harris, Belmont, Faversham. Assistant Sec., Mr. J. J. Lancaster, High Street, Canterbury. There was a decided improvement in Kentish cricket during 1870, though the season, taken as a whole, was far from satisfactory. What advance was made was solely due to the untiring energy of Lord Harris. Amateurs, and Kent is rich in them, rallied round the Kentish captain, and in only one oi the home matches were the eleven beaten. With such batsmen as Lord Harris, Messrs. Yardley, Frank Penn, Mackinnon, V. K. Shaw, Foord-Kelcey (a wonderfully improved hat), Kent is strong in this department. In bowling Kent i> painfully weak, and in fielding at times there was an air of insecurity .is well as a want of dash. Rumour states that Lord Harris will be unable next season, to take such an active part in county cricket. We sincerely trust that the report has no foundation in fact, but if it be true, Kent will have reason to miss one of the keenest cricketers who have ever associated themselves with the cricket of a county.
