Lancashire. Manchester, June 1 and 2. Lancashire was not represented by its best eleven, but it still had an easy conquest, thanks to the feeble show of Derbyshire with the bat. Indeed on a good wicket and in fine weather it was not a brilliant perform ance for the Derbyshire eleven to be dismissed for such scores as 60 and 78. Barlow, on the Lancashire side was lame, and the run-getting devolved on Messrs. Hornby and E. B. Rowley, who respectively made 60 and 37, the former making as many runs as the opposite eleven. Hind, who hit hard, contributed 30, or one half of the total in the first innings of Derbyshire, and Foster and Platts each got 20 in the second. Lancashire won by an innings and 25 runs. Derbyshire showed an unexpected aptitude for playing “ lobs ,'1 and Mr. Ridley's bowling was not so effective for Hants as it usually is. Fortu nately, too, for Derby the two crack amateur batsmen of Hants gave little trouble, as in two innings Mr. Ridley enly made 40 and Mr. G. H. Long man but 3 runs. Frost and Mr. R, P. Smith were the heroes of the victorious county. The former scored 52 in the first innings, and not-out 47 out of the 80 made for two wickets in the second, and Mr. Smith played good cricket each time to the extent of 43 and 22 not out. Mr. Booth, the Hampshire captain, obtained 22 and 36 ; but Holmes was the foremost on the Hampshire side, as he reached 52 in the second innings, and had the best bowling analysis with six wickets for 79 runs. Derbyshire won by eight wickets. Derbyshire, 179 and 80 (two wickets); total, 259. Hampshire, 98 and 156 ; total, 254. (3) Derbyshire v . Kent. Derby, June 19 and 20. A close and exciting match throughout. Both counties were well repre sented, but the scoring was in no case high. Messrs. Absolom and Foord- Kelcey disposed of Derbyshire for the small total of 107, and in th is there were as many as four double figures, the highest of which was the 21 of Mr. R. P. Smith. But for Lord Harris the Kentish innings w^ould have been of the smallest proportions, and his score of 79 out of 121 was one of the best
