Avery good bat, with fine com manding style; bowls slow-round, and at times with great success. CHESHIRE. T ownshknd , W. (Rossall and Oxford). A very fine bat, and first-rate as long-stop. DERBYSHIRE. C ubgenvkn , W. G. A brilliant bat, hitting well all round, and on a lively wicket a fast run getter; a good field at long-leg and cover point. H umble , W. J. Agood bat as well as a safe field, and is a valuable all-round cricketer. RicnARDKON, S. Agoodbat, cuts well. S m ith , R. P. Auseful man to his County, being a very good bat, and a fine out field; was hardly so successful in 1876 as in previous years. SnuKER , A. (St. John's, Cambridge). Anexcellent bat, andgood field, likely to be of great use to the Comity. S m ith , J. A very good bat, having a very strong defence ; good change bowler, and fair field. DEVON. F ortescue , A. T. (Marlborough and Oxford). A good bat, generally safe for runs ; a fine field. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. B ush , J. A. (Clifton). Perhaps the best amateur wicket-keeper of the day, being very sure ; rarely misses a chance, but seldommakes anythinglike a long score with the bat; can hit well. G ordon , C. S. (Marlborough). Asmart little cricketer, having great freedom as abat, and being a good field ; did not play for his County in 1876. G race , E. M. A very brilliant bat, with a good eye for hitting ; a splendid field, and without doubt still the best amateur point. Scored well for his County. G race , W. G. The champion cricketer at all points. As a batsman stands a l o n e , as a f ie ld hasno superior, and isoneof the best amateur bowlers of the d a y . (Three times scored over 300 runs in 1876.) G race , G. F . Only second to his brother Gilbert. Played some brilliant innings, and was as useful as ever in 1876. Afine field, a long and good thrower, and bowls very well at times. M atthews . T. J. (Clifton). Has a very stubborn defence, and plays with a straight bat, but has a style of his own. Did not play for his County in 1876- M ilf . s , P i . F. (Marlborough and Oxford).
