Keely (captain), a pretty bat, and more successful than previous y ea r ; has nice forward play and leg -h it; has been a most painstaking captain, and much improved the eleven. *A. F. Chance , a pretty bat with a nice cut, apt to play forward rather blindly ; a very good field ; one of the bowlers, perhaps the straightest of the eleven. *C. A. Jefferson , a good bat with good wrist, and straightforward play, wants more life at the w icke t; sometimes polls off the stumps and gets his legs in front; as a field has much dash, but is not very sure. IF. <7. Davy , a hard and confident hitter; a fair field and good medium-pace bowler; played well up throughout the season (captain for 1877). *F. Brantley, a correct bat, has a nice hit to long-on; not quite sure enough as a field; bowled once or twice. IF. H. F. Adams , a very excellent field, has much improved as a bat, and will still moro when he has learnt to play forward withont hang ing. A. 11. Champion, a slow bowler; made runs sometimes; wants stvlo and freedom ; is improving; slow field. *A. T. Hodgson, good wicket-keeper, left-handed batsman, often gets out soon from a bad sight of the ball. *D. Davies , had a vory straight bat, and generally hit determinedly; always did his best from beginning to end of a match. IF. Wylie, bowled slows ; as a bat pulled and hit up every thing. G. H. Hcslop, a very stiff bat?; can bowl fast, but is not veiy straight, from want of nerve.
