Gurney lifts turned out a really >to 1at, with fine dr iving powers and strong back defence ; perhaps he does not ; 1 together relish slows. As captain, has taken great pains, and has been owarded with a very fair team. *L. E. Lusldnytmi has fallen off in batting inco the beginning of the season, and lost confidence. A very useful howler with good command of paco. Bather slow in the field. * F. G . G. JcUicoe, a very good lefthand bowler, with plenty of spin and great com- tarnl of pitch. Batted very well at the beginning of the season, but has not come off so much towards tho end. * F. F. Newton, a very neat bat, .villi good defence, but was not so successful as was expected. A very m.stworthy field, with quick return, covering a groat deal of ground, safe catch ; promising too as a wicket-keeper. F. L. Cox , as a bat, has not como up to tho expectation formed of him, should cultivate a quieter style of defence. A quick field, and at times brilliant; also a fair medium-paced bowler. * R. T . Allen has improved as a wicket-keeper. Free hitter and energetic field. E. JL Watson , a very good field, and throw’s in brilliantly; was very successful as a slow’ round-hand bowler towards the end of the season; should vary his pace more. A fair bat, cuts and drives well.
