Greenfield (St. John’s Hurst) though he hardly batted up to bis form of 1875, proved himself most useful i o the eleven as a captain, batsman, lob bowler, and fielded most brilliantly at point. W. Blacker (Harrow) played some fine innings at ('am bridge, but was again unsuccessful at Lord’s, is an excellent bat, playing very hard, and a good field. W. 8. Patterson (Uppingham) proved himself usefal in every department, bowling slow-round with a high delivery and with great success during the season, was not generally a high scorer wfith the bat, but played :t splendid innings of 105 not-out in the University match at Lord’s. Hon. Lyttelton (Eton), a very dangerous batsman, hitting resolutely and smartly all round, though not so sound a bat as might be wished. A. P . Lucas y Uppingham), a thoroughly good and sound batsman; useful to go in first, being very steady and never taking a liberty, played brilliant cricket through out the season, and proved himself to bo one of the very best batsmen of the day ; plays very hard off the leg stump; apt to bo slow in the field. I). Q. 8tcel (Uppingham), a masterly bat, having good defence with great hitting powers ; ought to be heard of next year as one of the finest batsmen in England ; good change slow bowler with lots of spin and work ; keeps wicket very well ; a good field elsewhere, but a little slow. Hon. A. Lyttelton (Eton), perhaps one of the best amateur wicket-keepers of the d a y ; kept wicket for the Gentlemen at Lord’s ; as a bat possesses great hitting powers, and gets runs very quickly, playing with a very straight bat. V. K. Shaw (Hailey- bury) has developed into a very good hat (left-handed); a very fine field, and good change bowler. It. T. Allsojip (Cheltenham), a fair bat, but a very fine field, and a nscfnl change bowler. S. C. Newton (Jersey), a splendid field, never missing a chance; a good bat against second-class bowling. H. T. Ludding ton (Uppingham), a good fast bowler with lots of spin and work; came off in London especia lly; not much idea of batting but can make a hit now and then. CAIUS COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE. Hon.
