There was a balance of 19 runs to the good of Lancashire on the first innings, but in the second venture Hearne spread destruction, Barlowr (45)T and Mr. Rowley (25), and Mr. Hillkirk (19), together making 89 of 112 from the bat. Kent had only 137 runs to get to win and this seemed well within their capacity. Five wickets were down for 70, and Lord Harris still in. The end though came quickly as the last five wickets went for 35, and the innings went at 105, Lord Harris taking out his bat for a very fine score of 49. Lancashire wTon by 32 runs. Penn (46), Shaw (21), and Mackinnon (17), together scored 94, the number strangely enough wanted to save the innings, but the other eight batsmen could only combine to the extent of 17 runs.
