73 three brothers Grace contributed 1185, and the remaining batsmen of the County 1154 runs. Ninety-one out of 124 wickets fell to their share, and of these 54 were due to Mr. W. G. Generally the batting of the County was inferior to that shown in previous years, and the fielding at times most erratic. Result of Matches. Surrey. Oval, June 7 and 8. As in the preceding year it was a good match, resulting ultimately -in a victory for Surrey, though only by a narrow majority. Surrey scored 161, to which Mr. Straehan contributed 34, and Souther ton 32 (not out), both good innings. Gloucestershire was not in form with the bat. as Pooley snapped All. W. G. Grace when he had only made nine, and the eleven together reached 99, Air. G. F. Grace the highest scorer with 26. The second innings of Surrey was not a remarkable affair. Three wickets were down foi 80, and Jupp and Air. Game well in. The innings, though, only came to 106, Jupp 40, and Mr. Game 23, the only batsmen to make double figures. Gloucestershire had only 169 runs to get to win, Mr. W. G. Grace icserving himself in case of accident, instead of going in first. Messrs. Myatt and Matthews made 25 runs from the first six overs.
