69 straightest and most successful fast bowlers, did good service, and Hay seems likely to be of use to the County in this department. Results of Matches. (1) Derbyshire v. Notts. Nottingham, May 17, 18 and 19. Notts had not its best eleven, as the Whit-Monday match at Lord’s kept Alfred Shaw, Wild, and Morley in London. Derbyshire did well in getting rid of their opponents for 135, of which Oscroft claimed 53, a fine innings, displaying free hitting, especially to leg. The Derbyshire scoring was respectable, but not equal to the task required of it, as a very steady, well- played score of 70 (not out) by Reynolds, in the second innings, enabled Notts to reach 205, and Derbyshire could not muster the number of runs required to win for the lack of 93. Foster (36 and 25) batted well for Derbyshire, and Mycroft bowled in rare form, as will be seen below. J. C. Shaw got five wickets for Notts, but at the cost of 69 runs ; and Clarke in the first innings did well to get five wickets for 39. Notts, 135 and 205 ; total, 340. A match even throughout and productive of excellent cricket, although Lan cashire had not its full strength, as Mr. Appleby andBarlow were both absent. The home county made a respectable score of 182, Mr. Hornby as usual premier scorer, with a lively innings of 71, and McIntyre second with not out 28. Der-
