(l) M.C.C. and Ground v. Oxford Uni Oxford, May 20, 21 and 22. The Club was most inefficiently represented with not one batsman of the very first rank in the team, and it was only the aid of such ground bowlers as Alfred Shaw, Morley, and Randon that enabled it to make a respecta ble show against the University. The weather made the wicket treacherous, and the Oxonians had an advantage of 68 runs on the first innings, the Club scoring 93, of which Mr. G. N. Wyatt made 48. The total of the Mary- lebone in their second venture showed only an increase of 25 runs, five of the twelve batsmen showing double figures, with Mr. Marriott highest scorer with 21. Oxford ultimately only wanted 51 runs to win, and the number was easily obtained for the sacrifice of four batsmen, Marylebone being thus defeated by seven wickets. This was the first match of the University, and the excellent form they showed all round, with fine fielding, good bowling and batting, gave the public a great impression of their chances for the Inter-University meeting to come* Marylehone scored. 93 and 118, and Oxford 101 and 51 for four wickets. Mr. Foord-Kelcey’ s bowling in the first innings of tho Club is worthy of mention. Overs. Maidens. Rims. Wickets. 19.1 11 12 fi
