(Harrow and Oxford). One of the first batsmen of the dayr his defence being almost perfect; not quite in form at end of season. Good field. W e b b e , H. R. (Winchester and Oxford). A very fair bat and field, and likely to improve next year. ^NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. G illett , Rev. H. H. (Oxford University). A fine free hitter, and bowls fast round, occasionally with great success. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. B eevor , J. (Jr . (Uppingham). Has scored well in previous years for his county ; a fine hitter, and good all-round cricketer. R iddell ,, E. M. H. (Uppingham). A steady medium-pace round-arm bowler, a fair bat. T olley , R. Played several times for the county and showed good cricket, being a very patient bat and a sure field. W right , T. Hardly so successful as was expected as a bat, but hits well t® the off, a good field. W illiams , W. Fair bat, good field, bowls fast round. SHROPSHIRE. G o b d e n , F. C. (Harrow and Cambridge). A hard hitter ; bowls fast round- arm. SOMERSETSHIRE. V oules , Rev. S. C. (Marlborough and Oxford). One of the very best all round cricketers; is now head master of Sidney College, Bath. i£23 SURREY . A kroyd , S. H. (Radley). A brilliant batsman, and very difficult to dismiss if allowed to get set ; a safe field. Did not play for Surrey in 1875, and eschews first-class cricket. B ray , E. (Westminster and Cambridge). A good slow round-arm bowler, and would bat well had he more strength ; did not play for Surrey in 1875, owing to Souther ton's presence. B urls , C. W. A fair bat and can hit well to square leg ; slow field. C handler , A. (Cheltenham). xY useful man, being a good hitter, and usually safe for runs, though with an awkward style, hits well to leg ; not a good field. A very uncertain catch. H owell , L. S. (Winchester). A sure run-getter against anything like doubtful bowling, but hardly plays enough in first-class matches.0 v G ork , S. W. (Harrow). A very useful man m an eleven, being a free bat, a willing and most energetic field, and a good change bowler.
