A batsman witL very few superiors ; plays the best cricket, with fine defence and great power of hitting; is a splendid field and sure catch, and can bowl with either arm. Has been for several years the highest average scorer for his county ; played in most of the county matches in 1875. Played for Gentlemen. J ackson , E. As a wicket-keeper has few superiors, taking all kinds o f bowling with perfect ease. We were glad to see him representing his county more often during the past season. L eese , J. F. A very fast run getter and most powerful batsman, his driving being very fin e ; good field at point. Did not play for his county much last season. M akinson , J. Still maintains his reputation as being one of the best cricketers in the North of England. Seldom plays for his coun ty ; but generally to be found playing for the Broughton Club, of which lie is an old and useful member. P arr , H . B. (Cheltenham). A very good steady bat, frequently makes long scores against good bowling ; a good and safe field. P otter , W. Does not play so much as formerly ; a good bat, and fast round-arm bowler. B owley , E. B. One of the best batsmen in the North, drives well, an l a severe punisher of slow bowling ; good long-stop, and field. P orter , E. H. A good and safe bat, with capital defence ; a fair change bowler ; also good field. C hadwick , E. L. (Castleton Club). A very good bat, cuts very neatly, and good leg hitter ; also good field. L each , J. R. & W . A trio good enough for almost any eleven, all thoroughly good batsmen, and good fields ; but, unfortunately do not jday much for their countv. ___ B utterworth , W. (Carlton Club). A very rising player, and will no doubt be of some service to his count}". W right , R ev . F. W. (Rossall and Oxford). As good a cricketer as ever, being a sound and dangerous batsman, and a brilliant field. B oyle , V. (Oxford). P atterson , W. S. (Cambridge). Play for Lancashire. S teel , D. Q. The Captain of the Uppingham, also belongs to the county. LEICESTERSHIRE. H ay , W. H. A good steady bat and excellent long-stop. M arriott , C. (Winchester and Oxford). A very fine all round ericketer, being good at every p o in t ; bats in neat style and is an excellent field. M arriott , G. S. A fast round-arm bowler, and fail* bat. M itchell , K. A . H . (Eton and Oxford). Still ranks as one of the best batsmen of the day; is now a Master at Eton College. MIDDLESEX. B ird , G. An uncertain batsman in first class-matches, and unlucky for his county, though he played fine cricket in other engagements. A dangerous bat when set, and a good fie ld ; very fair wicket-keeper.
