Barton a very line bat, hitting well all round ; has obtained the 44Peek Cup ’ ’ for the best average ; a safe and brilliant held. Mr. Rate batted better this season than he has for some time p a s t ; a line hitter to the oil and knows how to punish loose bowling. Mr. Abbott has a style of his own but possesses a good defence and is always safe for runs ; a very line field at i>oint, rarely making a mistake. W. / / . Richmond , a model o f patience but should learn to hit more and to run better between the wickets. F. Ware has disappointed expectations, although in practice a tine bat ; showed some of his old form in bowling towards the end of the season ; a line field at leg in spite of one sad mistake. J. Carmichael improved w on ­ derfully in bowling this season, being very straight with a break from the o f f ; has no one but himself to blame for his batting average. *F. E. Emerson, the longstop of the eleven, and in this department has contrasted favourably with those of past years ; an improving bat. W . 8.
