Pope deserves great credit for the patriotic spirit in which he performed his duties as captain; improved in batting, and excelled as a safe field at cover-point. / / . L. Stafford, batted throughout in very good style and quite came up to his promise of the previous year; captain for 1870. *A. F. Dashwood , a very useful member of the eleven, u steady bat, generally sure of making rims; a promising wicket-keeper, and sometimes buwls. C. W. Mliman , rather unsafe as a bat, but when once started gets runs fast and in go«d style; a good long held when roused; can bowl. *G. L). Ringrose, the most suc cessful bat of the season, has good defence, and hits well, especially on the on-side; a first-rate long-stop and long-held. II. A. Unmet, a good slow bowler; has a very pretty cut, and with more confidence will play well. * K. K. Harris, generally a good fast left-arm bowler; too fond of hitting, and wants defence. *E. S. Marsh, a change bowler ; fields fairly at long-leg, not so successful in butting as was expected. A. F. Acton, a very promising left-arm slow bowler ; takes pains in batting and ought to do well. * F. JT. Scudamore, gained his place in the eleven by his brilliant fielding at long leg; requnes much piactice in batting. 1/, Fciniedy, fields well anywhere, throwing in smaitJy to the wicket, promises to make a good bat. ’ * Signifies bus leP.
