Steel quite kept up his reputation of the previous year; a splendid bat, combining strong dot* nc * with great power and knowledge in hitting; capital slow bowler with great a aiv and spin ; good wicket-keeper and lield; as captain has performed his duties to the satisfaction of everyone. J. B. Manly a fair bat with plenty of forward good slow-round bowler ; capt Murfin, a moderate bat, but tried hard; a good last bowler, with a curl from leg, hardly so good as the previous seasou ; good held. *C. L. Boucher. a pretty bat, cutting and driving well to the on, fell oil a little during the middle of the season through had health ; was the long-stop of the eleven, which duty he has accomplished well throughout the season. *T. M. Bat - terson, a good bat but rather uncertain, hits very hard past cover-point, and is very good to slows, punishes loose bowling of any so r t ; a very fast bowler, and a good held and catch. J. II. M. Hare , a very steady hat, generally getting runs, though slowly; hits well in front of cover point and drives well; bowls slow-round arm with a break back ; ought to be of use next year ; brilliant field anywhere. J R. Bristow , a fair hat, but is too stiff and slow, can drive both to the on and off, and also hit to leg ; fair field near the wicket, and can keep wicket at a pinch. *A. G. Blyth , a moderate bat, too fond of back pi iy, but sometimes drives hard to the off ; a good field with quick return, and a very fair wicket-keeper. A. Ackroyd, a steady bat, playing very straight, a little too stiff about the elbows, but played some useful innings for the school, is the first bowler of the eleven, changing his pace, and making his balls break-back very much ; good field. *T. G. Styan, a moderate bat, fell off towards the end of the season ; can cut and hit to leg well, sure field. V. A. Couper, a promising member of the Eleven, only played in the last two matches ; plays forward and cuts behind point nicely; must take more care about his fielding. WELLINGTON COLLEGE. Captain, C. A.
