White, owing to a sprained back all through the season, did not fulfil the expectations formed of his batting powers; has made an excellent captain, always doing his best to keep up the spirits of his eleven. *G. R. fiurgt has improved a great deal in batting since the beginning of the season, bowls fairly on his day, and is a good field at short slip. A. G. Steel lifts made some brilliant scores during the season, and combines freedom in bitting with good defence ; has turned out a good slow bowler, and. with trouble, will be very difficult to play. *A. O. Burton lias taken great pains in batting, and has improved greatly ; is on his day a dangerous fast bowler and a good all-round field. *G. p , Wilson lias made great progress this season, and manages to keep liis wicket up when wanted t o ; with practice will become a first-rate wicket­ keeper. H. T. L near, a steady bat, but wants more confidence; a good field and has been known to bowl. J . 31. Tcmpler has very fair notions of bitting, but wants more defence : a very neat and useful field. S. S. Wol­ laston, a fair bat against bad 1 owling, but wants a great deal of practice against slows, fair field. A , J. Bi/rness , a keat bat, but wants more energy and freedom in bis play ; a good field anywhere. *11. C. Kiny , a dangerous bat when well set, having great powers of hitting to leg ; a fair bowler and good field when he likes, lb. W.
