James Lillywhite's Cricketers' Annual 1876

119 B r a d f i e l d E leven in 1875.— P. J. M. Rogers (Captain), with a httlr l . i c* judgment would be a really fine bat; was often a useful change niwk'1, winner of the cup for best all-round cricket. *11. P. Muck (Sec.), the* buwler of the eleven, very steady with considerable break, a fine field, winner of the cup for bowling. *H. J. Powell bats in good style, but wants more cm r 'y and general smartness. J. E. Watson , as tine a field as ever, especialh at cover-point, never has confidence enough to bat his best in a match, winner of the cup for fielding. C. K. Watson did great service both as a batsman and long-stop, in batting “ came o n ” more than anyone, always plays ip, and promises to be very useful next season, when he wdll succeed Rogers as captain. F. A. Govett bats in very good style except when driving to the on, a useful lob bowler with a good deal of work. D. Hod-son was very useful both as a bat and bowler, played one or two capital innings when most wanted. *11. H. Barnes, a hard hitter, and towards the end of the season showed he was a bowler of no mean order ; a good field. H . R. Ball has cricket in him somewhere, but is much too casual to do himself justice and let it come out. C. S. Hand the wicket-keeper of the eleven, wants more confidence in his powers as a batsman. W. II. P. Hay man was prevented by illness from playing till quite the end of the season, promises well for another year ; a good field. BRIGHTON COLLEGE. Captain, O. J. Daniell. Results of Matches.
