Longman , (Captain), Captain showed great judgment and energy throughout, as a batsman fully ■maintained his reputation as one of the best amateurs of the day, not a certain held. H. M. Sims, the best all-roimd man in the Eleven, being a very dangerous batsman, witness his second innings at Lord’s, a brilliant field and occasionally a successful bowler. W. Blacker played some fine innings at Cambridge, hut, was again unsuccessful at Lord’s, is an excellent hat, playing very hard, and a good field. F. J. Grecnfeld was of great use to the eleven, having improved considerably until he has become a lively and punisliingbatsman, besides being an effective lob bowler and a splendid point. G. Macan, not so successful as was anticipated but still a good and sterling bat, an excellent long-stop. C. M. Sharpe proved himself one of the best slow round-arm howlers of the day being very straight with considerable break, and bowling with judgment, a better hat than is generally thought. II. A. Hamilton was not an element of strength in the eleven as he was not a safe wicket-keeper and a very weak bat. W. S. Patterson fully justified his place in the eleven and proved himself useful in every depart ment, bowling slow-round with a high delivery, at times with great success, besides playing some fine innings. Hon. E. Lyttleton , a very dangerous batsman, hitting resolutely and smartly all-round, though, not so sound a bat as might be wished. A . P. Lucas , a thoroughly good batsman always playing genuine cricket, is apt to play late on a fast wicket, useful to go in first being very steady and never taking a liberty, greatly improved on the field. A. F. Smith , a useful man all-round, but hardly up to University form, a very hard working and sure field, and at times an effective bat. CAIUS COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE. Hon. Sec., T. E. Raven.
