J ,. _Ho1·nby (Capt.), a brilliant field anywhere disappointing in hatting though he plays well enough in practice ; came oui as a bo,vler latterly with a good break, ougl1t to be very serviceable in this department next year; an energetic captain. *G. P. N. Glencross, very steady field at 1011g leg, throws in well ; had the makings of a good steady bat, l>ut has not come up to expectation ; also bowls . *8. H. Allenby hits well lJut is too fond of hitting wildly at every ball; can play, if he likes, very slack in the field. 0. A. C1·e .< ;s-u:ell, very promising bat, cuts and drives well and when once set played some good innings, but is too fond of trying t play under his leg, a danger ous a nd ugly practice ; uncertain in the field. E. Scott, a very fair bowler '\\' 7.th easy delivery, but should '' back up'' his own bo,vling mo1·e, and l1e wo1 1ld s ecure many more wickets; went off towards the end of term owing to bei11g over-bowled; with patience will make a good bat; quick in the field. R. R. Beard, a very sure field at point; uncertain in batting, but plays well in games, drives well, sometimes bowls. .E. M. Bristoiot>, a pron1ising bat at tl1e beginning of the season, hitting well to leg and holding his bat straight; latterlywent off as also in fielding where there is ml1ch room £01· improvement, but appears to think that practice is quite unnecessary for a cricketer. Hon. A. II. Sidney, a deserving cricketer; improved in batting considerably towards the end of the season, and can hit a half-volley; a poor field. S. ]Jarding ought to bat well in time with practice, at present is fast improving; slow and uncertain in the field. 8. F 1 ·eer, a veI·y fai1· field at mid-off; is a poor bat. * Signifies has left.
