Winchester bas not rece11tly taken a large share in the s11pply of cricketers for the 1 � i, ,,. al Universitif·�, but Clift911, She1·borne, Uppingham, Repton, Haileybury, and others, have advanced to the fro11t with bold and rapid strides: · Eton defeated Harrow and Winc·hester, and it is open to doubt whetheit�� two latter would not have had to succt1mb to on e · or all of Uppingham, Clift . �11 , Tu.-!gby, and H�iiley­ bury. Ha1·row '\\·as singularly weak, with only one . good batsman, while Eto� had an Eleven of collective excellence, if not in . pos s e s sion of any very noticeable individ11al skill. Rugby, too, was strong at all points, and Uppingham, Clifton, and Haileybury, on public form were very powerf11I the first nam£)d having three fine batsmen in D. Q. Steel, A. P. Lncas, r11d T . R. Fleming, the last named a very promisjng one in J. W. E�·ing.
