(1) Middlesexv. Surrey. Oval , July 17 and 18. A nunfortunate collision with match between Gentlemen and Players at Prince's . Middlesex all out for 91 , and five of Surrey downfor only 38 runs. Evenenough then for Middlesex , but the Surrey tail shook itself to some purpose, andthe two last batsmen, Southerton and Street , knocked the Middle- sex bowling about to the extent of 80 runs. Middlesex were 133 runs in arrear on the first innings , but they roused themselves in the second and totalled 206, W. H. Hadow50, and W. R. Gilbert a fine innings of 49. Two wickets were down for 42,four for 55, and nine for 63. Six ciphers in this collection , Richard Humphrey, Freeman, Palmer , Southerton , Messrs . Game(1), Boult , and Chandler , seven in all out for one run . Middlesex headed Surrey by 92 runs , but the latter nearly doubled their first score in their second attempt , Palmer making 54 with only three singles therein . Middlesex wanted 94 to win, and Middlesex lost no
