[The numbers attached to the different contests show the order in which they are treated in notes that follow . ] (1) K e n tv. Lancashire. Gravesend , July 10 & 11. Amatchsingularly uneventful in the wayof long scores , though full of ex- citement towards the finish . Mr. Leese made 20 and 44 for Lancashire , and Barlow 14 and 23, each time carrying out his bat. Willis played a fine innings of 67 (out of 133 ) for Kent ; and William M'Intyre bore the burden of the Lancashire bowling . Kent, at the end, required 82 runs to win, and seven of their wickets went downfor 50. A n ominous commencement; but Willsher and Croxford at once settled matters , and Kentwon an exciting matchby three wickets . Kent, 133 and82 (seven wickets ); total , 215. Lancashire , 118 and 96; total , 214. Kent (Willsher ) . 7 8 Overs. Maidens. R u n s. 7 6 7 4 W k t s. 4 1 2 2 9 Lancashire (W. M'Intyre ) 56 11 (7 bowled.) (2) K e n tv. Surrey. Maidstone , July 28 and 29. Another exciting finish , and, as before , just won by Kent. Anexecrable wicket, and luck muchagainst Surrey throughout. Indeed, the wickets were so unusual that Southerton was only put on for one over, and Street and Mr. Boult were deputed to share the bumping . They did it, too, right well , though the small limits of the ground made their overs rather expensive . Surrey were 43runs in handon the first innings , but their second wasvery unfortunate , as the light was so bad, the sun so low, and the arm of Captain Fellowes so high, that they could see but little , and the whole Eleven only mustered 84, 56 of which were due to Jupp and Mr. Boult . Kent finally had to make 128 to win, and this , mainly by the very fine batting of Lieut . Renny-Tailyour , and much luck to Croxford , they did achieve , having lost only eight of their wickets . Kent wonby two wickets . Kent, 99 and 128 (eight wickets ) ; total , 227. Surrey , 142 and 84 ; total , 226 .
