James Lillywhiite's Cricketers' Annual 1874
4 3 Marylebone opposition far from weak. Mr. W. Penn, an old Harrovian , in two innings knocked up fifty runs by such aerial hitting as would have done credit to Mr. Thornton, the greatest smiter of themall , some of his hits being fine in the extreme. Lord Harris , too, showed himself possessed of real batting talent in his second display of 42 runs, and Croxford succeeded in making 37 and 26 each time, more by luck than by skill or judgment. Marylebone headed their opponents by 65 runs at first , and their numberof 107 requisite in their second innings was made with the loss of only two wickets , Mr. W. G. Grace, not out, with 57 of these to his ownname. TheChampion, too, was among themwith the ball , as he had 15 out of 21 wickets , his bowling in the second innings well meriting special notice .
