Made his debût for Surrey in 1873 ; a useful m a n, being a good hitter and fine field . GAME, W. H. (Oxford ). Also plays for Surrey . HOWELL, L. S. (Winchester ) . A sure run-getter against anything like doubtful bowling , but hardly plays enough in first -class matches . MORRIS , N. Splendid bat, cutting well , and a fine leg hitter ; a very fine wicket-keeper, taking well on either side ; and an excellent fielp . READ, W. A young cricketer and sure to improve ; a steady bat, with any- thing but a taking style ; a difficult wicket to get from his patience ; a good field . S U S S E X . COTTERILL , J. M. (Brighton ). Played splendid cricket in 1873 ; has the very best defence , and can severely punish the loose balls ; a good field . COTTERILL , Rev. G. (Brighton ). A useful cricketer , being able to hit as well as play ; a safe field . GREENFIELD , F. J. (Lancing ). Hardly fulfilled the expectations that had been formed of him; bats well , and is a good field at point. HOBGEN, A. A right -hand slow bowler after the style of Southerton , very straight , but with not sufficient head work ; a very fair left hand batsman ; good field anywhere ; works hard ; plays for his county . JEFFERY , E. E. (Cambridge ). Plays for Sussex ; plays too much in small . matches to rise to county form. MARE, J. M. Played for his county , though by no means so well as in 1871 and 1872 ; has good defence , and is a fine field . SMITH, C. H. A good, steady bat, and most useful to his county, being a judicious captain ; is a safe field . SHARP, C. A left handbatsman, a tremendous hitter ; good field ; will improve withmoregood practice . WEIGHELL , W. B. (Cambridge ). All round , may be described as a very useful cricketer ; bowls very fast round -arm with great success at times ; bats well , hitting very freely to square leg , and is an excellent field . Plays with a straight bat and in good style , possesses great steadiness .
