1 9 2 HORNBY, A. N. (Harrow). A batsman with very few superiors ; plays the best cricket , with fine defence and great power of hitting ; is a splendid field and sure catch, and can bowl with either arm. Hasbeen for several years the highest average scorer for his county ; played in only three matches in 1873, but hope to see him help his county more often in 1874. Played for G e n t l e m e n . JACKSON , E. As a wicket-keeper has few superiors , taking all kinds of bowling with perfect ease ; does not represent the county so often as could be w i s h e d. LEESE, J. F. A very fast run-getter and most powerful batsman, his driving being very fine ; good field at point. MAKINSON, J. Still maintains his reputation as being one of the best cricketers in the North of England ; does not play for his county so muchas we shouldwish. MURCHIE, J. A good all -round m a n; bats , bowls, and fields well . PARR, H. B. (Cheltenham ). A very good steady bat, frequently makes long scores against good bowling ; a good and safe field . POTTER, W. Does not play so much as formerly ; a good bat, and fast round- a r mb o w l e r. ROBERTS, R. A very good bat and field . ROYLE, V. A new acquisition to the County Eleven ; plays in very good style , a n dno doubtwill turn out a valuable m e m b e r; bowls slow round-a r m w i t htolerablesuccess. ROWLEY, A. B. A very good left hand bowler and neat bat ; only plays for his county very little , but when he does generally renders good service . ROWLEY, E. B. One of the best batsmen in the North, drives well and a severe punisher of slow bowling ; good long -stop and field . STUBBS, R. A fine free batsman and quite up to county form, but from some unexplained cause does not represent his county. SWIRE, S. H. Hon. Secretary to the Lancaster County and Manchester Cricket Clubs ; has been highest average scorer for his county ; does not play so muchas formerly , giving up the playing department to younger hands ; still plays for the Manchester Club , and frequently makes good scores ; good change bowler , and capital manager of his side . M I D D L E S E X . BAKER, G. D. (Rugby). Is never out of place , being a good bat and a sure and s m a r tfield. BETTS , M. P. (Harrow). Aquick run -getter , playing free cricket against any bowling ; a sure field , though rather given to effect than safety ; is now a b r o a d. BISSETT, R. Almost if not the best amateur wicket -keeper , though not quite up to his form last season ; a very hard hitter ; was not played at all by his county in 1872. BRUNE, C. J. (Cambridge ). A very straight medium pace bowler , likely to be 2 dangerous at any time ; did not play for his county as much as usual in 1 8 7 3. GREEN, C. E. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). One of the first batsmen of the day, having fine defence with great certainty of hitting all round ; a good long-stop .
