1 9 1 CRAWFORD, F. F. (Oxford). Is also a steady , careful bat, and was also success- ful against moderate bowling ; an excellent field . COLES, G. E. A very fast bowler, especially dangerous on a rough wicket , as shown at Lord's against Sussex ; rarely shines with the bat. FELLOWES , J. Avaluable recruit for Kent ; good bowler with high delivery that does great execution on a rough wicket ; a hard and fearless hitter . HARRIS, Lord (Eton and Oxford). A fine bat, though he is somewhatuncertain ; played fine cricket at Canterbury for the South against the North; a good field. HILTON, P. Agoodbat and excellent field , but, for some reason unknown, neglected by his county. KELSON, G. M. A n excellent all -round cricketer , being a good bat, with a faculty for fast scoring whenset ; fields well and is a useful bowler. LIPSCOMB, R. Avery fast round-armbowler, and is at times most destructive ; dangerous on a rough ground. Hardly so successful in 1873. PENN, W. (Harrow). A fine bat, playing not only freely and well, but also in goodstyle ; can bowl if required . RENNY-TAILYOUR , H. W. (Cheltenham ). A very good cricketer in every depart- ment; a splendid bat, with defence as well as plenty of hit and a neat cut ; an excellent field , and a successful bowler at times ; Kent by residence ; the right arm of the Royal Engineers . STOKES , F. (Rugby). Afast round -arm bowler of great pace ; a very good bat ; a good long -stop , and should play more for the county . THORNTON , C. J. (Eto n and Cambridge ). The grandest hitter ever seen ; was prevented by severe illness from helping Kent in 1873. TOOTELL , F. A good al round player , and better batsman than his scores in 1872 would imply : plays genuine cricket , and is a very good change b o w l e r. WHITE, E. A. Has done good service to his county , and has scored well , being a safe if not showybat. YARDLEY, W. (Rugby). One of the very best amateur batsmen of the day; plays splendid cricket , his driving being very fine ; an uncertain field . L A N C A S H I R E . APPLEBY , A. A left fast round -arm bowler , very straight , and should not be left out of any amateur eleven ; an improved bat and very safe catch ; a valuable m a nfor any eleven ; played for the Gentlemen. BIRLEY, F. H. (Winchester ). A very neat bat, and good slow underhand b o w l e r. BOUSFIELD , E. J. Owing to illness rendered his county no assistance in 1873 ; aheavy hitter and good field . CUNNINGHAM, D. A very good cricketer , and excellent manager of his side . DEWHURST, R. Has a very free style of batting , but has not been so successful as was anticipated ; good field , and can throw well . DUNLOP, G. H. A good andneat batsman, and excellent field at point . HARDCASTLE, W. With more confidence would be. a valuable m a nto his county; bats in good form anddrives well. HILLKIRK, J. Adangerous batsman; seldom leaves the wicket without scoring ; excels chiefly in hitting ; good change bowler.
