James Lillywhiite's Cricketers' Annual 1874
C H A P T E R I X. T H EC H I E FS C O R E R S I N 1 8 7 3. WEATHER, generally unfavourable to cricket during the early part of the season , didmuchto reduce the number of cricketers whocan lay claim to the distinction of three figures in 1873. Nonethe less , there are some who have done honour to the name of cricket by remarkable achievements in the wayof long scores , even if they are scarcely so numerous as in preceding years . Not the least wonderful performance in this list of marvels is the innings of Mr. M. A. Troughton, who scored 206 (not out) out of 402 runs , the entire amount being obtained for the loss of only two wickets . Ofthis feat , full details will be found in a later divi- sion of the book, and of the others , all statistics will be learned from the table b e l o w.
