Patterson (Captain )has fully kept uphis reputation of last year both in batting and bowling . A sabat, he combines good all -round hitting with strong defence ; his bowling has often proved useful to the Eleven this year , rising quickly from the pitch ; has come out well as a field . As Captain of the Eleven, he has performed his duties to the satisfaction of every o n e. D. Q. Steel , a free hitter , making runs off any bowling ; has also capital defence ; at times rather too fond of hitting . Bowls slow round with a high delivery and good break. Has not had muchpractice in wicket -keeping this year, but, onoccasions , has shownhis old form in that capacity . Succeeds to the Captaincy . C. L. Brook has not realized the expectations formed of him, though, on one or two occasions , he has shown good form ; cuts well , but lacks defence . Generally a very good field at cover ; should be more energetic . *R. B. Faulkner has played better in practice than in matches ; is weakin defence , but
