As a batsman he is very fine both in defence and hitting ; an excellent field ; again holds the cup for the best average . * L. Jeffery , the best all -round player in the Eleven, receiving a cup for this high position . * A. H. Young, a verygood bat indeed , and the best wicket -keeper the school has been able to boast of for a very long period . G. F. Vernon has succeeded Crosse to the cap- taincy ; is a good bat, an excellent field , and bowls slows . * C. H. Simpson , the bowler of the Eleven, obtaining a prize for his success in this line ; an improving bat. * J. J. Harding, an improving bat, good field , and fast bowler ; but without muchcommandover the ball , * E. L. Fanshawe , a steady bat, always going in first ; the long-stop . J. F. Forman, avery good and promising bat, and splendid field . * A. A. Hopkins did not last season bat up to the form that was expected ; the point of the Eleven . * H. Stuart Russell , left -handed medium bowler, fine field , and an improving bat. J. H. Patry, a steady bat, and change bowler (left -handed) ; wants a little more attention at fielding . A.
