Bruce, (Captain of the Eleven), a very steady bat with good defence , and a capital field . His management gave general satisfaction . *F. M. Buckland , a valuable manin any Eleven, a first -rate bowler-medium pace with wonderful command of the ball , and considerable spin-a fine bat with great hitting powers ; a good field , especially at short slip . H o n. E. Lyttelton , a dangerous bat, with great hitting powers ; weak in defence ; a first -rate field and thrower ; useful occasionally as a change bowler. Hon. A. Lyttelton , a very fine player , combining good defence with hard hitting ; he was unfortunately prevented from playing regularly last year, and suffered much from wantof practice : a very good wicket keeper ; promises to become quite first -rate in both departments . H. E. Whitmore , a good change bowler ; for a few overs he is straight and often difficult , but he is apt to lose patience if not at once successful ; muchimproved with the bat ; he played several very good innings ; a good field . W. F. Forbes , a very good bat, with commanding style ; likely to become quite first -rate ; a splendid thrower , but somewhat slow in the field . F. Judd, adangerous bat, but wants patience ; a severe punisher of loose bowling ; magnificent field at cover point . E. Ralli , too careless to excel ; has played some very good innings , and some very bad ones ; frequently throws his wicket away in his longing for a swipe ; a fair field and long-stop, but inclined to be sleepy . E. Denison , a fair bowler , and likely to improve ; a slashing hitter , and frequent run-getter ; must take pains with his fielding . *H. Alleyne has played afew good innings , but is
