Batten (Capt. for 1874), a very valuable memberof the Eleven ; safe for runs , a good field , and useful medium- pacebowler. G. Young, a very good slow round left -arm bowler ; is only too straight . A. Simmonds , a really good bat, with an excellent cut; fair point . J. A. Platt came off well in the most important match, v. Trinity , with two good innings andwith the gloves ,but in other matches was not successful . J. A.Batchelor , avery fair and safe bat; good field . F. Price , a good all -round cricketer , butdid not come off whenplaying for the University , though his batting , bowling , and fielding for John's v. Trinity were universally admired . E. A.
