Fryer , Harrow (Downing), Cap- tain, a fine batsman, with an excellent style ; hitting hard all round ; bowls slow round arm ; scarcely in his form of 1872 , on which he maybe said to have won his place amongst the Gentlemen of England. G. H. Longman, Eton (Trinity ), has few superiors when opposed to fast bowling ; has a beautiful style of batting , and inexhaustible patience ; fields well , and is an enthusiastic cricketer , played for Gentlemen both at Lord's and the Oval . A. S. Tabor, Eton (Trinity ), played only little during the season , but showed his old form in the second innings against Oxford ; has a good defence , and is by no means a slow run getter ; a capital field . T. Latham, Winchester (St. John's ), a useful batsman , whose con- fidence and straight bat are the causes of considerable success ; a good field , and always plays well up. G. E. Jeffery , Rugby(Trinity ), not the batsman we had hoped to have seen himbecome, but still a dangerous man; his slow round armbowling did Cambridge good service at Lord's , but is, we venture to think , scarcely appre- ciated byhis county ; fields well , and a certain catch . H. M. Sims (Jesus), a fast bowler, with a high delivery ; was not seen at his best in the Inter -University match ; at times successful with the bat ; a painstaking field , and sure catch . C. Tillard , Repton (Clare ), a hard hitter , and sometimes dangerous bat ; bowls fast round arm, and bowls it straight , his bowling against Oxford being first -class ; is an excellent field . H. A. Hamilton , Wellington (Trinity ), the wicket -keeper of the Eleven, and did his work well until his hands got bad; bowls fast round
