Hodgson was unfortunately prevented from playing much, but his destructive style of bowling proved more than once indispensable to the college . J. C. Crawford's services throughout the season have been invaluable , both with the bat and ball ; a safe run-getter ; a slow left- hand bowler , with a peculiar delivery . A. K. Smith , a somewhat lucky batsman, but often scores , slow in the field . G. D. Faber, Captain for 1872 and 1873 ; has fallen off very muchin bowling, but w e hope that next year, w h e nthe schools will not interfere so m u c hwith his cricket , he will regain his former excellence . R. T. Richardson , a neat bat, with a strong defence ; seldom fails to get runs , though not so successful as in former years ; a capital long -stop . H. W. Claugh- ton has a curious style of play, but usually stood his ground when needed. C. W. Boyle , (vide University Eleven). G. A. Webbe, a very pretty bat, with an ex- cellent defence ; has done goodservice to the College in most of their matches. R. V. Surtees , a useful cricketer ; usually scores , and is, on his day, a dangerous b o w l e r.
