Cricket Witness No 5 - Whites on Green
109 As Alan Jones remembers: “The celebrations in the St, Helen’s bar went on all night. We were joined by some of the Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir who rushed down to see us from their base at the Fountain Hotel in the ‘Bont’ after watching our victory on BBC TV. Normally, we would take guests and opposing teams to the Fountain on a Sunday night to listen after practice sessions. The following night, they came to see us and how the Aussies enjoyed it! I can still see Barry Jarman even now up on top of a table conducting us all. He was to have caught the 7.30pm train to London; he eventually caught the 8.30 am [the next day]. It was Phil Jones, one of the choir’s leaders who suffered most. At lunch on the Bank Holiday Monday, he had told his wife he was just going to the Fountain to get some cigarettes; the next time she saw him was Tuesday morning!” 5 1.
