Cricket Witness No 3 - The Daffodil Blooms
121 Epilogue The legacy of 1948 August 24 th , 1948 has gone down as one of the great dates in Welsh sporting history, with the events at Dean Park, Bournemouth and Glamorgan’s stunning victory over Hampshire ranking alongside other magnificent occasions such as December 16 th , 1905, when the Principality’s rugby team first beat the mighty All Blacks as well as April 23 rd , 1927, when the F.A. Cup came to Wales for the first time after Cardiff City’s dramatic victory over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium. After the remaining Championship game at Leicester, the Glamorgan squad undertook an end-of-season tour to Pembrokeshire where a series of friendlies took place at Narberth, Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock. It was very much a social tour as each game was accompanied by a grand dinner and civic receptions. Having enjoyed the celebrations at Bournemouth, Dai Davies was only too delighted to accept an invitation from Wilf to join the Championship-winning side for the tour matches, and although the weather washed out the final game, all concerned Wilf Wooller and his victorious Glamorgan team at Swansea in 1948.
