Cricket Witness No 1 - Class Peace
143 Acknowledgements As a member and former senior officer of the ACS I am both gratified by and grateful for the opportunity afforded me of contributing to the association’s new Cricket Witness series. Having watched cricket since a child, played a little, read a lot, talked even more and then written about cricket for well nigh 40 years, one would need a lengthy roster to pay tribute to all who have contributed to an historical text prepared by such an octogenarian cricket-lover. There are, however, more immediate dues of appreciation to be paid, namely, to John Winnifrith for his meticulous proof-reading and comments, Andrew Hignell for his generous and positive encouragement and advice at the origins and throughout the writing of this book and to David Jeater for his meticulous editing of the draft typescript. In particular, I wish to thank Andrew for his perceptive researches that led to both the cover design and the central display of photographs. These add very effectively and relevantly to the tenor of this study. I stand indebted to these three fine stalwarts of cricket scholarship.
