The corresponding game in 2013/14 was definitely ruled first-class in advance of the match so it was assumed the same would apply this season. However, some months after, it was claimed by some Galle players who had appeared in the match that they had been told in advance that the match was not first-class and so they were eligible to play in an English league which did not allow first-class cricketers to appear. A letter has been seen from Sri Lanka Cricket claiming the match was not first-class but dated only on the date of the enquiry not before the match was played. The reason was rumoured to be because Galle had not played first-class cricket since 2007, but this is not true (they played in 2012/13 before being relegated at the end of that season). In the absence of anything to support the claim of a ruling prior to the match it has been decided for OFCA and the ACS YB to treat the match as first-class. Further enquiries on this matter to explain the apparent inconsistency with the previous season have not met with any response, possibly because of the appointment of an interim committee by the Sri Lankan government which may be in breach of ICC regulations.
