They were the only wickets he took in the match. He played in two other Tests, taking another five wickets, giving him eight in the series at an average of 35.25. Bowlers in the main struggled on perfect batting wickets in a high scoring series. On the tour as a whole Goddard took 31 wickets at an average of 26.35 which put him third in the averages although four bowlers took more wickets. His best performance was the 6 for 38 he took against Rhodesia at Salisbury, his only five wicket haul. As a batsman he only batted eight times in the ten games he appeared in scoring 76 runs at an average of 9.14. He took one catch, a vital one as it was the wicket of A.D.Nourse the first victim of his Johannesburg hat-trick. Goddard also took a hat-trick in the game against Rhodesia.
