He suffered a strained side in August which restricted his effectiveness to some extent although it did not prevent him taking 8 for 64 against Essex and 7 for 66 against Sussex during the month. Altogether he took 143 Championship wickets, three less than Reg Sinfield who headed the Gloucestershire averages. Goddard’s 153 wickets overall that season were taken at 20.30 each and he took five wickets or more in an innings 15 times and ten wickets in a match on threeoccasions. These figures included his 100th five wicket haul, against Oxford University in May. As a batsman he scored 376 runs in 36 innings including his second half-century, an innings of 67 against Sussex at Eastbourne. He held seventeen catches. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 303.
