Returning to the side against Leicestershire at Bristol on 14th July he took 9 for 37, his best figures of the season. Overall he was less effective than in 1933 taking 119 wickets in the Championship at an average of 23.71, nearly six runs a wicket higher than the previous year. He was again called upon to bowl many long spells and he was deadly again on occasions such as his 11 for 154 against Sussex at Cheltenham and 11 for 125 against Somerset at Bristol.
