Spin-bowling was still the County’s main attacking weapon with Parker taking 198 wickets and Mills 101. Goddard had two five wicket hauls, against Hampshire at Gloucester and Essex at Bristol. He was regularly given the new ball this season and often bowled lengthy spells. The season also brought his first encounter with the Australians. Playing at the Cheltenham College ground he took the wickets of J.M.Taylor, T.J.E.Andrews and A.J.Richardson for 58 runs. As a batsman he made 317 runs in 48 innings the highlight being an innings of 47 against Essex at Gloucester when he helped P.T.Mills to add 98 for the tenth Gloucestershire wicket.
