His opportunities were strictly limited. In one match, against Essex at Gloucester, he did not bowl at all and in five other games he bowled less than ten overs. With Parker taking 200 wickets that season in Championship games alone, there was little need for Goddard’s support. He contributed 78 runs at an average of 7.80 including his highest first-class innings to date when he hit 30 out of the 31 added for the tenth wicket against Leicestershire at Gloucester.
